TRACTION for concert band (grade 3)
Traction was composed in May 2020 and rescored in September 2021. Moving at a medium march tempo, the music carries a sense of momentum and propulsion, carried along by an insistent rhythmic figure that opens the piece and often underlies the music. Several lyrical contrapuntal episodes occur, the last being a four-statement cannon set above the building rhythmic motive. Traction ends with a fanfare-like flourish.
